Syracuse University Press home website

Syracuse University Press invites proposals for book-length works in its longstanding Religion and Politics series. We seek serious, interdisciplinary, well-written books about the phenomenon of expanding and politically engaged religious movements in the United States and the world. The prominence of religious movements is undeniable, and this resurgence cuts across political and cultural boundaries. Some are “fundamentalist,” seeking to purify traditions deemed corrupted by modernity; others are alternative movements that have broken away from established religious communities; still others are driven by a modernist millenarianism—apocalyptic and dedicated to the total transformation of society. In almost all cases, these organizations have become enmeshed in politics—either directly participating in the political process or challenging the existing regimes outside normal political channels.
