Learn the secrets of writing and researching television history. Syracuse University Press has just published an updated edition of one of the best books on media history: Watching TV: American Television Season by Season. Authors Walter J. Podrazik, a TV curator at the Chicago Museum of Broadcast Communications, and Harry Castleman, a lawyer and coauthor of eight books with Wally, will explore how they created Watching TV in the eighties and have now brought this detailed, entertaining history of TV up to 2024, surveying how the medium has evolved every year. In addition, Wally and Harry along with Paley TV Curator Ron Simon have chosen rare clips from the Paley Archive to screen, including one of the of the strangest series ever, The Continental, and the Beatles’s first appearance in primetime before the Sullivan show.

Join coeditors Melanie Jones and Shayda Kafai as they discuss their new book Mad Scholars: Reclaiming and Reimagining the Neurodiverse Academy. They will explore how disabled and neurodiverse scholars’ work is richer because of their differences, not in spite of them, and where higher education could go if Mad scholars were treasured as resources, recognized as assets, and embraced as change-makers. This event is co-sponsored by the Center on Disability and Inclusion.
