"Pearson recounts, in a series of charming informal essays, his experiences visiting six places with literary associations—Frost's Vermont, Faulkner's Mississippi, Flannery O'Connor's Georgia, Hemingway's Key West, Steinbeck's California, and Twain's Missouri. . . . Pearson's descriptions and interviews are first-rate. . . . A pleasant read, full of rich anecdote and detail."—Kirkus Reviews
"An unusual mix of travel and autobiography in which [Pearson] reluctantly comes of age. . . . Imagined Places will stand with such distinguished surveys as The Experience of Place by Tony Hiss; Frederick Turner's Spirit of Place and Beyond Geography: A Writer's America by Alfred Kazin"—New York Times Book Review
